Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport Guide
Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport sits in the parish of Lavacolla, 12 km northeast of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, northwest Spain. Named after the celebrated Galician poet in March 2020, it is the busiest airport in Galicia and the second busiest in northern Spain. The current terminal opened in October 2011 and spans 74,000 sq m with capacity for 4 million passengers annually. The airport handled 3.6 million passengers in 2024.
Vueling operates SCQ as a focus city for its northwest Iberian Peninsula network, while Ryanair uses it as its sole base in northern Spain. Other carriers including Iberia, easyJet, KLM, Lufthansa, and United Airlines serve international routes. The single runway (17/35, 3,200 m) supports year-round operations including low-visibility landings via Cat II/III ILS.
The airport plays a significant role in Camino de Santiago pilgrimage tourism, with the ancient route passing close to the airfield. Access to the city centre takes roughly 20 minutes by bus or taxi, and a rail link connects Lavacolla station to Santiago de Compostela.
