Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport Guide
Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport sits 8 km southwest of Málaga city centre, making it one of Spain's most conveniently located major airports. It handles predominantly international traffic, with the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands representing the three largest markets. The airport is connected to Málaga city by the Cercanías C1 rail line, which opened in September 2010 and stops at Terminal 3.
AENA operates the airport under two active passenger terminals. Terminal 2, officially named the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Terminal, handles low-cost carriers and overflow gates. Terminal 3, opened in March 2010 and designed by Bruce S. Fairbanks, is the primary facility for check-in, security, and most departures, with capacity rated at up to 30 million passengers per year.
In 2024 the airport recorded 24.9 million passengers — the highest in its history — and 174,915 aircraft movements, placing it fourth among AENA-managed airports in Spain behind Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona-El Prat, and Palma de Mallorca. The airport has operated from its current site since scheduled service began in 1919, making it one of Spain's longest-continuously-used airfields.
