Suhaj International Airport guide

Sohag International Airport sits 24 kilometres south of Sohag city in Upper Egypt, serving the Sohag Governorate and surrounding region. It was inaugurated on 25 May 2010 at a cost of about US$80 million and is the fifth international airport in Upper Egypt, after Luxor, Aswan, Assiut and Abu Simbel. The terminal building is designed to resemble an Ancient Egyptian temple and can handle around 3.5 million passengers a year, with international arrival and departure halls, a VIP hall, duty-free shops and security facilities.

The airport's route network focuses on the Gulf and on domestic links to Cairo. Carriers serving Sohag include Air Arabia, EgyptAir, flyadeal, flynas, Jazeera Airways and Kuwait Airways, which suit the many residents of southern Egypt who travel to the Gulf.

The Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority has certified the airport as international, in line with ICAO standards. The single runway is 3,000 metres long and 45 metres wide and handles aircraft such as the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737, and the apron is designed for six aircraft with plans to expand it to fourteen.
