Sharm El Sheikh International Airport Guide
Sharm El Sheikh International Airport sits on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, serving one of Egypt's premier Red Sea resort destinations. The airport handled 6.8 million passengers in 2024, making it the third-busiest airport in Egypt after Cairo and Hurghada. It operates two parallel runways, each 3,081 metres long.
The airport began civilian operations in 1979 following the Egypt–Israel peace treaty and subsequent Israeli withdrawal from the Sinai. Two terminal buildings serve passengers: the newer Terminal 1, opened in May 2007 across 43,000 square metres with 40 check-in desks, handles the bulk of international and charter traffic; the original Terminal 2, modernised in 2004, primarily handles domestic services.
The airport is dominated by charter and leisure carriers from Europe, with airlines from Russia, Turkey, and the Middle East also well represented. EgyptAir provides domestic connections to Cairo, while carriers including TUI Airways, easyJet, Wizz Air, Turkish Airlines, and several Russian airlines operate seasonal and year-round international routes. The airport is managed by the Egyptian Airports Company, a subsidiary of the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation.
