Nuremberg Airport Guide
Albrecht Dürer Airport Nuremberg sits 5 km north of the city centre, making it one of Germany's most centrally located airports relative to its downtown. The U2 metro line runs directly to the airport, connecting to Nuremberg's main station in around 13 minutes — a link established in 1999 that makes NUE the only German airport served by a subway line.
Opened in 1955 as the first airport built in West Germany after World War II, NUE is the second-busiest airport in Bavaria. It handled around 4 million passengers in 2024, its strongest result since before the pandemic. The airport operates a single terminal with two departure halls and approximately 40 check-in desks. Leisure destinations dominate its route network, with Antalya, Palma de Mallorca, and Istanbul among the busiest routes. Ryanair, SunExpress, and Corendon Airlines were the top carriers by passenger volume in 2024.
The airport is owned and operated by Flughafen Nürnberg GmbH, a joint venture between the state of Bavaria and the city of Nuremberg, each holding a 50% stake. Its single runway of 2,700 metres handles both narrowbody jets and occasional wide-body charters.
