Ürümqi Tianshan International Airport guide

Ürümqi Tianshan International Airport is the main air hub of Xinjiang, in north-western China. It sits in Xinshi District, northwest of downtown Ürümqi. The airport opened to passengers in 1973 and was known as Ürümqi Diwopu International Airport until it was renamed in March 2025. It is operated by Xinjiang Airport Group.

It handled 29.2 million passengers and 194,910 aircraft movements in 2025, along with about 332,000 tonnes of cargo. China Southern Airlines runs its Xinjiang hub here, and Hainan Airlines uses the airport as a focus city. Routes reach cities across China and into Central Asia, Europe and Southeast Asia. The airport has three runways, two of 3,600 metres and one of 3,200 metres. It is the only airport in China's five autonomous regions rated 4F.

The North Terminal opened on 17 April 2025. It covers almost 400,000 square metres and has 177 gates. The three older terminals, opened between 1974 and 2009, are being converted into cargo relay facilities. Line 1 of the Ürümqi Metro has served an International Airport station since October 2018.
