Burqin Kanas Airport guide

Burqin Kanas Airport serves Burqin County in the Altay Prefecture of northern Xinjiang. Its ICAO code is ZWKN, and the field sits at 1,188 metres above sea level. It lies about 74 kilometres from Burqin town and roughly 50 kilometres south of Kanas Lake, the scenic area it was built to reach.

Construction finished in 2006 and the airport opened on 15 August 2007 with a China Southern Airlines Boeing 737 flight from Urumqi. Until 2019 it operated only in summer. A single concrete runway, 12/30, is 2,500 metres long. One building combines the passenger terminal and the air traffic control tower and covers 3,028 square metres, beside an apron of 18,700 square metres.

All flights are domestic and centre on Urumqi, with Urumqi Air and Chengdu Airlines among the carriers. The airport recorded 59,320 passengers and 984 aircraft movements in 2024, and handled 8.1 tonnes of cargo.
