Haibei Qilian Airport guide

Haibei Qilian Airport serves Qilian County in the Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Qinghai province. It sits on the Tibetan Plateau at 3,163 metres above sea level, about 35 kilometres from the county seat.

Construction began in July 2014 at an estimated cost of 1.203 billion yuan. The airport opened on 28 August 2018 and is the seventh civil airport in Qinghai. It has one concrete runway, 10/28, measuring 3,400 metres. A 3,000 square metre terminal building and four aircraft parking positions make up the rest of the facility.

Traffic is light. The only scheduled service is a China Eastern Airlines flight to Xining. The airport handled 3,612 passengers and 172 aircraft movements in 2021, along with 41.2 tonnes of cargo. The national approval for the project set a design target of 180,000 passengers a year by 2025.
