Yushu Batang Airport guide

Yushu Batang Airport serves Yushu City in Qinghai province. It lies 18 kilometres south of the city centre, at an elevation of 3,890 metres above sea level. It is the highest civilian airport in Qinghai and one of the highest in the world.

Construction began in 2007. The first aircraft landed on 29 May 2009 and the airport opened on 1 August 2009. After the magnitude 7.1 earthquake of 14 April 2010 damaged local roads, the airport became the main rescue route and received the first relief flight that evening. An expansion started in October 2019 and opened on 1 August 2022. It cost 474 million yuan and added a 5,770-square-metre terminal building and nine aircraft stands.

The airport has one concrete runway, 10/28, 3,800 metres long and able to handle A319 aircraft. In 2025 it handled 405,531 passengers, 4,100 aircraft movements and 1,095.3 tonnes of cargo. Beijing Capital Airlines, China Eastern Airlines and Tibet Airlines fly to Beijing, Chengdu, Lhasa, Xi'an and Xining.
