Zhaotong Zhaoyang Airport guide

Zhaotong Zhaoyang Airport (ICAO: ZPZT) is the new airport for Zhaotong, a prefecture-level city in northeastern Yunnan province. It is being built at Zhaojiaxiaochong in Zhaoyang District to replace the old Zhaotong Airport, which dates from 1935. The relocation project was approved by the State Council and the Central Military Commission in June 2017 and started on 20 July 2021. Wikipedia lists the new airport's expected start of operations as the end of 2026.

Until then, scheduled flights use the old airfield, which reopened to civil traffic on 20 November 1994. It has one asphalt runway, 04/22, 2,600 m long. In 2025 it handled 454,690 passengers, 5,396 aircraft movements and 2,031.4 tonnes of cargo, according to Civil Aviation Administration of China figures.

Scheduled routes are all domestic. Kunming is the main link, and there are services to Chengdu, Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Xi'an. Travellers should check which airfield their flight uses before they book ground transport.
