Cangyuan Washan Airport guide

Cangyuan Washan Airport serves Cangyuan Va Autonomous County in Lincang prefecture, in the far southwest of Yunnan province, close to the border with Myanmar. It sits in Nuoliang Township, about 36 kilometers from the county seat. Construction began on 20 December 2013 with an estimated investment of 1.589 billion yuan, and the airport opened on 8 December 2016 when a Lucky Air flight arrived from Kunming.

The airport was built to support tourism in the Va ethnic area. It is closer than Lincang Airport to Wengding, a well-known Va village, and lies roughly 187 kilometers by road from the city of Lincang and 670 kilometers from Kunming. A single concrete runway, 2,600 meters long and 45 meters wide, runs on a 05/23 heading. The airport is designed to handle 270,000 passengers and 1,080 tonnes of cargo a year.

Traffic is modest. In 2021 the airport recorded 224,294 passengers, 2,636 aircraft movements and 254.8 tonnes of cargo. Scheduled service has been limited to a few routes to Kunming and Shanghai Hongqiao, flown by China Eastern Airlines and Lucky Air.
