Nanping Wuyishan Airport guide

Nanping Wuyishan Airport sits in Wuyishan Town, Yanshan County, in the far north of Fujian province, about 7 kilometers from Wuyishan city and the Mount Wuyi scenic area. It is the only commercial airport serving the Nanping prefecture, and visitors to the UNESCO-listed mountain make up much of its leisure traffic.

The field was built in 1958 as a permanent air force airfield and became a joint military and civil facility in 1984. A 1992 expansion funded with 96 million yuan from state and local governments lifted it to Class 4C. It opened to civil aviation on 15 January 1994, and charter flights to Hong Kong began that June. The Hong Kong route became regular service in 2005. The PLA Air Force's 41st Aviation Brigade is still based here.

The single 2,400-meter runway has a Category I instrument landing system and takes aircraft up to the Boeing 737 class. A new terminal opened in December 2015, and an international inspection hall followed in September 2017. Flights stopped from 1 November 2024 for runway maintenance and resumed on 28 January 2025. The airport handled about 319,000 passengers in 2025. Local bus line 7 and taxis connect the terminal to the mountain's south entrance.
