Ricardo García Posada Airport guide

Ricardo García Posada Airport (Aeropuerto Ricardo García Posada, ICAO SCES) serves the copper mining community of El Salvador in the Atacama Region of northern Chile. It was formerly known as El Salvador Bajo Airport. The airfield sits in the desert about 15 km southwest of the town, at an elevation of roughly 1,600 m.

It has one asphalt runway, 09/27, which is 2,308 m long and slopes upward toward the east. The town lies in the commune of Diego de Almagro, in Chañaral Province, and has about 7,000 residents.

Scheduled commercial service does not operate at the airfield. Flights are reduced and run as charters, and regional councillors have said that opening it to commercial arrivals and departures would need improvements to the runway facilities. In July 2026 the Atacama regional council approved a public-private governance body for the ports and the aerodrome of Chañaral Province, with Codelco's Salvador division as a proposed member.
