Kindu Airport guide

Kindu Airport (IATA KND, ICAO FZOA) serves Kindu, the capital of Maniema Province in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The city is a port on the western bank of the Lualaba River, and the airport stands at an elevation of 497 metres.

The airport is a public airport operated by the government. It has a single asphalt runway, 18/36, measuring 2,200 metres by 45 metres. Wikipedia lists scheduled services by Congo Airways, Air Congo and Compagnie Africaine d'Aviation to Kinshasa N'djili, Kisangani and Goma. The Kindu VOR/DME navigation aid stands about 1.7 kilometres west of the airport.

Air access matters here because roads in Maniema Province are unsurfaced and generally in poor condition. Most goods reach Kindu by air from Goma, Bukavu and Kinshasa. The city is also the northern terminus of a Congo Railway line that runs south to Lubumbashi.
