Bunia Airport guide

Bunia Airport (ICAO: FZKA) serves Bunia, the capital of Ituri Province in the north-east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It sits at an elevation of about 1,233 metres and is equipped with a VOR/DME and an NDB, both identified BUN.

The airport has one runway, 10/28. It measured 1,850 metres by 30 metres before an upgrade that began in June 2022 and cost more than USD 48 million. The project extended the runway to 2,500 metres, widened it, enlarged the apron and added a new passenger terminal and control tower. Compagnie Africaine d'Aviation landed a demonstration flight on the upgraded runway on 20 April 2026, and the longer runway allows larger jets to use the field.

Compagnie Africaine d'Aviation has linked Bunia with Beni, Bukavu, Goma, Isiro, Kalemie, Kisangani and Lubumbashi. Humanitarian and cargo flights also use the airport. In 2013 a MONUSCO project added runway lighting and night-capable air traffic control. The airport was shut in May 2026 because of the Ebola epidemic, and commercial flights were suspended again in June 2026 after a reopening.
