Toronto Pearson International Airport Guide
Toronto Pearson International Airport is located in Mississauga, Ontario, roughly 27 km northwest of downtown Toronto. It is Canada's largest and busiest airport and one of the most internationally connected in North America, serving approximately 200 destinations across six continents. In 2024, 46.8 million passengers travelled through the airport — about 30% of Canada's total air traffic.
The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) has operated Pearson under a ground lease from Transport Canada since 1996. The airport covers 1,861 hectares and has five active runways. Terminal 1 handles Air Canada, Star Alliance carriers, and select independents; Terminal 3 handles most Oneworld and SkyTeam airlines along with several Canadian leisure carriers. The two terminals are connected by an automated transit system.
Pearson opened for scheduled passenger service in 1939 as Malton Airport. The Union Pearson Express rail link connects the airport to Union Station in downtown Toronto in about 25 minutes, providing a direct alternative to road travel.
