Toronto Pearson International Airport Guide
Toronto Pearson International Airport is located mostly in Mississauga, Ontario, roughly 27 km northwest of downtown Toronto. It is Canada's busiest airport, serving more than 180 destinations across all six inhabited continents. In 2024, 46.8 million passengers passed through the airport, 30.4 million of them on international trips.
The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) has operated Pearson under a ground lease from Transport Canada since 1996. The airport covers 1,867 hectares and has five runways: three running east-west and two north-south. Terminal 1 handles Air Canada, its Star Alliance partners and several independent carriers such as Emirates and Etihad Airways; Terminal 3 handles most Oneworld and SkyTeam airlines, along with Air Transat, Porter and WestJet. The two terminals are connected by an automated people mover.
Pearson opened for scheduled passenger service in 1939 as Malton Airport, when a Trans-Canada Air Lines DC-3 landed on 29 August. The Union Pearson Express rail link connects the airport with Union Station in downtown Toronto in under 30 minutes, with intermediate stops at Weston, Mount Dennis and Bloor.
