Cartwright Airport guide

Cartwright Airport (ICAO CYCA) is a small gravel airstrip serving Cartwright, a fishing community on the southeastern Labrador coast. The airfield sits at 42 feet above sea level, a short distance southwest of the town. Cartwright had 439 residents at the 2021 census.

The airport has one gravel runway, 08/26. The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador owns and operates it, one of the community airstrips the province maintains along the coast. Only small turboprop and light aircraft can use it.

Cartwright has been linked by road to Blanc-Sablon, Quebec, since 2002, and the Trans-Labrador Highway to Happy Valley-Goose Bay has been open to the public since December 2009. Even so, the airstrip remains a link for medical travel, freight and passengers on this part of the coast. A provincial coastal ferry also calls at Cartwright between Goose Bay and Black Tickle, and sailings end for the season in late autumn. Confirm any flight times with the operator before travelling, because weather often changes schedules.
