Rurrenabaque Airport Guide
Rurrenabaque Airport (ICAO SLRQ) serves the Beni River port town of Rurrenabaque in the Beni Department of northern Bolivia. It sits about 2 km northeast of town at an elevation of 206 m, with mountainous terrain just to the south at the foot of the Cordillera Real. The town is the usual gateway for visits to Madidi National Park and the Pampas.
The airport has one asphalt runway, 14/32, 1,500 m long. It was asphalted in 2010. Before that the strip was grass, and flights stopped on rainy days during the December to April wet season. A non-directional beacon with the identifier RBQ stands on the field.
The airport closed for roughly ten months of works and reopened in 2022. The first phase built a passenger terminal, technical block, control tower, fire-fighting service, taxiway and apron, so larger aircraft can now use the field. Scheduled flights link Rurrenabaque with La Paz and Cochabamba. Amaszonas once ran up to eight daily flights from La Paz, and about two thirds of visitors to the area are foreign tourists.
