Cox's Bazar Airport guide

Cox's Bazar Airport serves the beach resort town of Cox's Bazar in south-eastern Bangladesh. It lies on the northern edge of the town, about 1.5 km from the city, and is the gateway for visitors to the long beach and the Rohingya camps in the district.

The British Raj built an airfield here during World War II. Pakistan's central government made it a domestic airport in 1956. The Liberation War damaged it, and it reopened in 1972. Upgrade work began in 2012 and lengthened the asphalt runway, 17/35, from 6,775 ft to 9,000 ft and then to about 10,700 ft (3,200 m), with part of the extension built over the sea. Fuelling services began in February 2017.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines, US-Bangla Airlines, Novoair and Air Astra fly domestic routes, mainly to Dhaka. The existing terminal is rated for 0.73 million passengers a year. A new terminal of about 17,955 square metres, with a planned capacity of 1.8 million passengers a year, is replacing it. The government declared the airport international on 13 October 2025 and suspended that notice on 24 October 2025 because airlines showed no interest in international flights.
