Shah Amanat International Airport guide

Shah Amanat International Airport serves Chattogram, Bangladesh's main port city and second-largest city. It sits at Patenga, about 20 km from the city centre, and is the country's second-largest international airport after Dhaka.

The field began as Chittagong Airfield and was used by US Army Air Forces units in 1945. It passed to Bangladesh in 1972 and was called MA Hannan International Airport until 2005, when it was renamed after the 18th-century saint Shah Amanat. A renovation between 1998 and 2000, financed by JICA, raised it to international standard at a cost of US$51.57 million.

The airport has one 2,940 m runway (05/23) and one passenger terminal of about 20,000 square metres, split into international and domestic halls. A separate 2,700 square metre cargo terminal handles freight. The apron takes four aircraft and has two boarding bridges. Its stated capacity is 1.5 million passengers and 6,000 tonnes of cargo a year, and 2019 traffic of about 3 million passengers exceeded that. The Bangladesh Air Force also uses the site as BAF Zahurul Haq Base.
