Wagga Wagga Airport guide

Wagga Wagga Airport sits in Forest Hill, about 11 kilometres south-east of the city centre, in the Riverina region of New South Wales. It carries the IATA code WGA and the ICAO code YSWG. The airport shares its airfield with RAAF Base Wagga, which opened as RAAF Forest Hill in July 1940. Civil flying began after the Second World War.

The airport handles roughly 225,000 passengers a year on more than 140 flights a week. QantasLink flies to Sydney and Brisbane, and Rex flies to Sydney and Melbourne. Rex also keeps its main engineering and heavy maintenance base for its Saab 340 fleet here, and the Australian Airline Pilot Academy trains cadets on site.

The main runway, 05/23, is asphalt and measures 1,768 metres. A shorter clay runway, 12/30, is 894 metres long. An instrument landing system has been in service since December 2010. The Department of Defence owns the land, and the City of Wagga Wagga operates the civil airport. A terminal of 780 square metres, built in the 1980s, serves passengers. Federal funding of almost $5.8 million supports runway and terminal upgrades, including terminal expansion for passenger screening.
