Broken Hill Airport lies about 6 kilometres south of the city centre, in the far west of New South Wales. It is the main air link for Broken Hill and the surrounding outback. The airport carries the IATA code BHQ and the ICAO code YBHI.
Two airlines fly scheduled services. Rex connects Broken Hill with Sydney, Adelaide and Dubbo, and QantasLink flies to Sydney. QantasLink began its Sydney route in 2022, ending Rex's long run as the only operator on it.
Broken Hill City Council owns the airport. It has two runways: sealed runway 05/23, 2,515 metres long, and grass runway 14/32, 1,000 metres long. The terminal has a Rex check-in counter, a licensed cafe, public amenities, a mother's room and a pilots' room. A car park serves the terminal, and Avis, Hertz and Sixt offer car hire pickup. Taxis run from the city.
The airfield is also a base for the Royal Flying Doctor Service, which runs a visitors' centre on site. The Broken Hill Aero Club, charter and scenic flight operators, aircraft maintenance and Air BP refuelling are based here, and Australian Air Express handles freight.
