Tongoa Airport guide

Tongoa Airport is a small domestic airstrip on Tongoa, the largest island of the Shepherd Islands in Vanuatu's Shefa Province. Its ICAO code is NVST. SKYbrary places it at Pele, and the field sits about 135 m above sea level.

The airport has one runway, listed at between 610 and 710 m depending on the source. Tourism guidance says Air Vanuatu flies from Port Vila to Tongoa, with no direct link to the neighbouring island of Emae. Limited schedules mean outer-island seats are best booked well in advance, and the airline's domestic services were disrupted in 2024, so travellers should confirm flights directly. Domestic departures from Tongoa also carry a provincial departure tax of VT200, paid after check-in.

The island covers 42 square kilometres and had about 2,200 residents at the 2015 count. No passenger or movement statistics are published for the airport. Boats are the alternative to flying.
