General José Antonio Anzoátegui International Airport serves Barcelona, capital of Anzoátegui State in northeastern Venezuela. The airport opened in June 1973 under President Rafael Caldera and sits roughly 4 km southwest of Barcelona's city center, less than 1 km from the Caribbean Sea coastline. It is operated by BAER (Bolivariana de Aeropuertos) under the ownership of the Instituto Nacional de Aeronáutica Civil (INAC).

The airport is the primary hub for Avior Airlines, which operates scheduled services to Caracas and Porlamar within Venezuela, as well as international routes to Panama. LASER Airlines, Conviasa, and Turpial Airlines also operate from the airport. The facility has two operational runways, each approximately 3,000 metres long.

The airport serves the broader Barcelona–Puerto La Cruz metropolitan area, one of Venezuela's most economically significant regions due to its oil industry. On-site services include VIP lounges, car rental counters, food vendors, retail shops, and 24-hour parking.
