Newport News Williamsburg International Airport guide

Updated 2026-10-18

Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport sits on the Virginia Peninsula in Hampton Roads, about nine miles northwest of Newport News. Nearly half of the airfield lies in York County. It was built after World War II on the site of Camp Patrick Henry, an embarkation port for soldiers, and was first named Patrick Henry Field. That history is why the code is PHF. Scheduled airline service began in 1949, and the airport took its current name in 1990.
