Lynchburg Regional Airport - Preston Glenn Field Guide
Lynchburg Regional Airport sits about nine kilometres southwest of downtown Lynchburg, Virginia, at the junction of U.S. Route 29 and Route 460. The City of Lynchburg owns and operates it. The field opened in 1931 as Preston Glenn Airport, named for Lt. Preston Glenn, a Lynchburg native and Army Air Corps pilot who died in World War I, and the name survives in its formal title, Preston Glenn Field.
Commercial service is small and regional. American Eagle flies Embraer ERJ-145 jets to Charlotte, which carries most of the airport's passengers. United Express began flights to Chicago O'Hare and Washington Dulles on March 24, 2026, operated seven days a week by SkyWest. The airport recorded 99,513 aircraft operations in the 12 months to January 2022, about 272 a day. General aviation accounts for roughly 94 percent of that traffic, and commercial flights for under 1 percent.
Two asphalt runways serve the field. Runway 4/22 is 7,100 feet long and 150 feet wide, and runway 17/35 is 3,386 feet long and 75 feet wide.
