Midland International Air and Space Port sits in the Permian Basin of West Texas, roughly halfway between Midland and Odessa. The field stands at 2,871 feet above sea level and covers about 1,600 acres. The City of Midland owns it.

The site began in 1927 as Sloan Field. The city bought it in 1939, and from 1942 it served as Midland Army Air Field, a bombardier training school. Commercial use began in 1950, and a passenger terminal followed in the 1960s. The current terminal opened in phases in 1999 at a cost of about $34.5 million. A restored Pliska aeroplane hangs above the baggage claim. A roughly $50 million expansion, with a larger TSA checkpoint, broke ground in October 2025.

In September 2014 the FAA licensed the airport as a commercial spaceport, the first primary commercial service airport in the country to hold that status. The airport handled 767,734 passengers in fiscal year 2025, a record and the third straight record year. Southwest Airlines carried about 45 percent of them, followed by United and American Eagle. Nonstop flights reach Austin, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Las Vegas and Phoenix. The Commemorative Air Force has been based here since 1991.
