Dallas Fort Worth International Airport sits midway between Dallas and Fort Worth, occupying land across portions of Tarrant and Dallas counties including parts of Grapevine, Irving, Euless, and Coppell. It opened on January 13, 1974, and has grown into one of the busiest airports in the world. In 2024 it handled 87.8 million passengers — a 7.4 percent increase over 2023 — and ranked third globally for both passenger volume and aircraft movements.

American Airlines treats DFW as its primary global hub, accounting for more than 80 percent of passenger traffic and operating from Terminals A, B, C, and D. The airport serves over 260 nonstop destinations, including 73 international routes. Terminals A through C handle American Airlines domestic operations, while Terminal D is the international gateway, hosting carriers such as British Airways, Emirates, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Air France, Japan Airlines, and Korean Air. Terminal E serves all other airlines, including Delta, United, Alaska, and JetBlue.

DFW operates seven active runways arranged in a parallel configuration that enables high throughput in most weather conditions. The airport was the first in North America to achieve carbon neutral certification. A sixth terminal, Terminal F, is under construction with the first phase scheduled to open in 2027.
