Brownsville/South Padre Island International Airport sits about 4 miles east of Brownsville, in Cameron County at the southern tip of Texas. It serves Brownsville, South Padre Island and the Rio Grande Valley. The City of Brownsville owns the airport. The control tower operates from 6 a.m. to midnight local time.

Two asphalt runways handle traffic: Runway 13/31 is 7,399 feet long and Runway 18/36 is 6,000 feet long, both 150 feet wide. The field began as Brownsville Army Air Field during World War II and took its present name in 1983.

A 91,000-square-foot passenger terminal opened to the public in January 2021 and replaced a 1970s building of 37,000 square feet. The $43.8 million building has four gates, two domestic and two swing gates that can handle international flights, and a federal inspection station designed to process up to 200 passengers per hour. Electrochromic glass in the entry hall wall controls temperature and glare automatically.

American Eagle flies to Dallas-Fort Worth and United Express to Houston. Breeze Airways serves Orlando, and Aerus flies to Monterrey. The airport handled 319,000 passengers in 2024 and recorded 25,603 aircraft operations that year.
