Portland International Airport sits 14 km northeast of downtown Portland, alongside the Columbia River. It is the largest airport in Oregon, handling around 90% of the state's passenger air travel. The airport is served by the MAX Red Line light rail, which runs directly to downtown Portland and connecting suburbs.
The airport completed a major terminal renovation in 2024 under the PDXNext program. The rebuilt main terminal features a mass timber roof built from locally sourced Pacific Northwest wood. Four concourses — B, C, D, and E — connect to 60 gates. Concourse D includes the Governor Victor G. Atiyeh International Concourse, which handles international arrivals with a dedicated customs and border protection facility.
Alaska Airlines operates the most flights at PDX, accounting for roughly 40% of departures. The airport serves 75 domestic and 10 international destinations, with nonstop international routes to Tokyo, Amsterdam, Reykjavik, Frankfurt, and Vancouver BC among others.
