Albuquerque International Sunport sits 5 km southeast of downtown Albuquerque at an elevation of 5,355 feet, making it one of the highest-elevation commercial airports in the United States. The airport shares runways with Kirtland Air Force Base, which occupies the land to its east. The terminal building spans approximately 600,000 square feet and features Pueblo Revival architecture reflecting the region's cultural identity.

Southwest Airlines is the dominant carrier, accounting for over half of all passengers. Six major airlines serve the airport — Alaska, American, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest, and United — along with commuter carriers Advanced Air and Contour. The airport offers nonstop service to more than 30 destinations across the continental United States.

The airport opened at its current site in 1939 and has undergone several expansions, including a major modernization completed between 2017 and 2020. It is operated by the City of Albuquerque Aviation Department and serves as the primary gateway for New Mexico, handling over 5 million passengers annually.
