Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport sits in the Fort Snelling area, roughly 16 kilometres from both downtown Minneapolis and downtown Saint Paul. The airport covers 2,930 acres and is operated by the Metropolitan Airports Commission, a public body established in 1943. It ranks as the 17th busiest U.S. airport by passenger volume, handling 37.2 million passengers in 2024.

Delta Air Lines uses MSP as its second-largest hub, accounting for about 65% of passenger traffic. Sun Country Airlines is also based at the airport. In 2024, MSP served 165 nonstop destinations — 130 domestic and 35 international — including transatlantic routes to Europe and connections to Canada and Mexico.

The airport has four runways and two passenger terminals. Terminal 1 (Lindbergh) handles the bulk of traffic across seven concourses with 99 gates. Terminal 2 (Humphrey) is a separate facility primarily used by low-cost carriers, with 14 gates. The Metro Transit Blue Line light rail connects both terminals to downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul.
