Portland International Jetport Guide
Portland International Jetport sits 3 km west of downtown Portland, Maine, making it one of the most centrally located airports in New England. Owned and operated by the City of Portland, it is Maine's busiest airport and handled 2.44 million passengers in 2024 — a new annual record. The airport spans 726 acres, has two intersecting runways, and recorded approximately 55,874 aircraft movements in 2024.
Commercial service at the site dates to 1931, with the city acquiring the airfield in 1937. The current terminal opened in 1968 and underwent a $75 million expansion completed in 2011. The single compact terminal uses a three-level layout with a straight concourse and gates numbered 1 through 11.
Growth accelerated when low-cost carriers — including Southwest Airlines, JetBlue, and Breeze Airways — entered the market, alongside legacy carriers American, Delta, and United. The Jetport received three 2025 Airports Council International awards including Best Airport in North America in the 2–5 million passenger category.
