Augusta State Airport sits about 2 km west of downtown Augusta, the Maine capital, in Kennebec County. The State of Maine Department of Transportation owns it, and the City of Augusta manages and operates it under a management agreement. The site began as a New Deal relief project in 1934 with gravel runways.

Cape Air provides the scheduled passenger service, flying to Boston several times a day under the federal Essential Air Service program. Its Boston flights connect with JetBlue. The airport has two asphalt runways, 17/35 at 5,001 ft and 8/26 at 2,703 ft. Aircraft up to 70,000 lbs may land, and operators need a waiver above 60,000 lbs.

Most traffic is general aviation. Maine Instrument Flight has operated as the fixed-base operator since 1946, offering flight training, charters, maintenance and fuel. Parking at the airport is free, Hertz rental cars are on site, and a restaurant operates in the terminal.
