Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport sits in Kenner, Louisiana, 18 km west of downtown New Orleans. Opened in 1946 and named after the jazz legend in 2001, it is the primary gateway for southeastern Louisiana. The airport handled 13.2 million passengers in 2024 and operates two runways.

The airport's single North Terminal opened in November 2019, replacing an aging facility. Three concourses — A, B, and C — branch off a central hall post-security. Concourse A processes all international arrivals through dedicated customs facilities. Southwest Airlines is the dominant carrier at MSY, holding roughly a third of the passenger market. Delta, American, United, JetBlue, Alaska, and Spirit also maintain significant operations.

The New Orleans Aviation Board manages the airport under ownership of the City of New Orleans. International routes connect the airport to Canada and select European and Latin American destinations, including direct service to London Heathrow via British Airways. The airport has received the Airports Council International Best Airport in North America award (5–15 million passenger category) for five consecutive years.
