Indianapolis International Airport sits 11 km southwest of downtown Indianapolis in Marion County, Indiana. The airport is owned and operated by the Indianapolis Airport Authority and serves as the busiest airport in Indiana. In 2024, IND recorded over 10.5 million passengers — its first year surpassing 10 million — driven by major events including the NBA All-Star Game, the U.S. Olympic Swim Trials, and the Indianapolis 500.

Beyond passenger traffic, IND is one of the top cargo airports in the United States. It hosts the second-largest FedEx Express hub in the world, exceeded only by the FedEx SuperHub in Memphis. This cargo dominance consistently places IND among the top 10 U.S. airports by air freight volume.

The current terminal, named the Col. H. Weir Cook Terminal after a World War I ace and Indianapolis native, opened in 2008. It replaced the airport's previous facility and features two concourses with 39 gates total. The airport traces its origins to 1931, when it opened as Indianapolis Municipal Airport, with commercial airline service beginning in February of that year.
