Gary/Chicago International Airport sits in Gary, Indiana, on the southern shore of Lake Michigan, about 25 miles southeast of the Chicago Loop. It opened in 1954 and is used mainly for cargo, corporate and general aviation, with a US Customs facility on the field.

The airport has no scheduled passenger airline service. Allegiant Air flew its last scheduled flight on August 10, 2013. The airport authority has been seeking new airline commitments, and in November 2025 it contracted an upgrade of the passenger terminal that includes boarding bridges and an automated parking payment system.

The main runway, 12/30, was extended to 8,859 feet in 2015 and is long enough for large jets. UPS Airlines has flown cargo between Gary and Louisville since November 2020. The field is also a joint civil-military airport and hosts an Indiana Army National Guard aviation support facility. Boeing bases its Midwest corporate jet fleet here.

The Gary/Chicago Airport station on the South Shore Line is about one mile south of the terminal, with trains to downtown Chicago.
