Grand Canyon National Park Airport Guide
Grand Canyon National Park Airport sits in the town of Tusayan, Arizona, at the south entrance to Grand Canyon National Park. It is the gateway for visitors to the South Rim who arrive by air rather than by road.
The airport is owned by the State of Arizona and has been run by the Arizona Department of Transportation since 1974. The current field opened in 1965, replacing an earlier airstrip that operated from 1928. The terminal was dedicated in October 1967. A single asphalt runway, 3/21, measures 8,999 feet by 150 feet.
Traffic is dominated by sightseeing. Fixed-wing air tours and helicopter flights over the canyon account for most of the roughly 41,000 aircraft operations recorded in 2021, with general aviation and military flights making up the rest. Papillon, Maverick and Grand Canyon Helicopters operate from helipads on the field, and Grand Canyon Airlines flies De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter and Cessna 208 aircraft. Scheduled airline service is limited, and most visitors arrive on tour flights from the Las Vegas area. The terminal houses a few tenant businesses, including bike and equipment rental and a skydiving operator.
