Mesa Gateway Airport Guide
Mesa Gateway Airport sits on the former Williams Air Force Base in southeast Mesa, about 32 km southeast of Phoenix in the east of the Phoenix Valley. The site began as Higley Field in 1941 and became a civil airport in 1994 under the name Williams Gateway Airport. Scheduled passenger flights started in 2007. The Mesa Gateway Airport Authority owns it, and the airport was renamed from Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport in December 2024 after Phoenix withdrew from the authority.
Three parallel runways serve the airport, and the airfield handled 309,103 aircraft operations in 2024. Passenger traffic passed two million in 2025 for the first time. Allegiant Air runs an operating base here and flies to destinations such as Bellingham, Bozeman, Colorado Springs, Eugene, Provo, Rockford and Santa Ana. Sun Country Airlines adds seasonal service to Minneapolis-St. Paul.
Passengers use a single terminal on the west side of the field. A five-gate South Concourse of about 30,000 square feet opened in 2024. A larger east terminal is planned under the airport's long-term development program but has not been built.
