Birch Creek Airport guide

Birch Creek Airport serves the small Athabascan community of Birch Creek in the Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area of interior Alaska. The airport sits about one nautical mile north-northwest of the village. No road connects Birch Creek to the state highway network, so the airstrip is the main route for passengers, mail and freight.

The airport is state-owned and open to the public. It has a single gravel runway, 16/34, measuring 4,000 by 75 feet. The FAA lists the surface as in good condition. The runway has medium-intensity edge lights, a lighted wind indicator and a beacon that runs from sunset to sunrise. The field is unattended, has no control tower and has no fuel. It has no based aircraft.

Wright Air Service flies the scheduled air taxi service, linking Birch Creek with Fairbanks and Venetie. In 2015 the FAA counted 515 passengers, 850 aircraft operations and 31,000 pounds of freight. Fairbanks drew the most passengers, with about 200, followed by Fort Yukon with 50. Its codes are KBC (IATA), PAAR (ICAO) and Z91 (FAA).
