Deering Airport guide

Deering Airport serves the Iñupiat village of Deering on the Seward Peninsula, in Alaska's Northwest Arctic Borough. The airfield sits about 3.7 km southwest of the village centre, and no road connects Deering to other communities. Scheduled and charter flights carry passengers, mail and freight.

The State of Alaska owns the airport through the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, Northern Region. Its 262 acres hold two gravel runways, 3/21 at 1,012 by 23 metres and 12/30 at 811 by 23 metres, both in good condition and plowed in winter. The field is unattended, with no terminal building, fuel service or aircraft maintenance on site. Pilots use the common traffic frequency 122.9 and an automated weather station.

Traffic is light. The FAA recorded about 3,500 aircraft operations in 2014, and no aircraft are based here. Bering Air links Deering with Kotzebue, Buckland and Nome, and Ryan Air connects Buckland and Point Hope. Kotzebue was the busiest destination in 2016, with about 1,000 of the airport's 2,403 passengers.
