Central Airport guide

Central Airport serves the small Steese Highway community of Central in interior Alaska, in the Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area. The field sits at 936 feet above sea level and covers 97 acres. Central had 66 residents at the 2020 census, and the airport is the gateway for visitors to nearby Circle Hot Springs.

The airport has one gravel runway, 08/26, measuring 2,782 by 60 feet. Published notes list the surface as in poor condition and not maintained, with no snow removal, so pilots are advised to inspect it visually before landing. Traffic is about 4,000 operations a year, split between air taxi and general aviation. No aircraft are based on the field.

The State of Alaska owns it through the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, Northern Region. Warbelow's Air Ventures flies scheduled service to Fairbanks and Circle, subsidised by the Essential Air Service program. The Steese Highway is the only road connection, and Fairbanks lies roughly 200 km to the southwest by road.
