Merle K (Mudhole) Smith Airport is the commercial airport for Cordova, a Prince William Sound town with no road link to the rest of Alaska. The field sits at 53 feet above sea level on the Copper River Delta, about 11 miles southeast of the town centre. Anchorage is roughly 159 miles away by air, and flying is the main way residents and visitors reach Cordova outside the ferry.

The airport has two runways. Runway 9/27 is asphalt, 7,500 by 150 feet, and has an instrument landing system. Runway 16/34 is a 1,934 by 30 foot gravel strip that is not available to passenger operations with more than 30 seats. The airport has no control tower, and no fuel is sold on the field.

The State of Alaska owns the airport through the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, Northern Region, and staffs it seven days a week. Alaska Airlines carries nearly all scheduled passengers, and cargo carriers move freight alongside them. Traffic supports commercial fishing, health services, the U.S. Coast Guard and military users. A master plan update completed in 2023 sets out a 20-year development programme.
