Musoma Airport guide

Musoma Airport (ICAO: HTMU) serves Musoma and the wider Mara Region in northern Tanzania, close to the eastern shore of Lake Victoria. It sits at an elevation of 1,153 metres. The Government of Tanzania owns it and the Tanzania Airports Authority operates it.

The single runway, 18/36, was a 1,600-metre gravel strip. A rehabilitation project that began in April 2021 and cost Sh35 billion replaced it with a 1,705-metre asphalt runway. The airport now holds Category 2C status and can take aircraft carrying up to 80 passengers, up from 45. A non-directional beacon with the identifier MU is on the field.

Passenger services were suspended in March 2018, when the airport could only handle aircraft of up to 45 seats. Auric Air and Precision Air flew to Mwanza and Dar es Salaam before then. Air Tanzania flew a test flight to the upgraded airport on 12 June 2026 and plans to make Mara its 17th domestic destination. A temporary passenger terminal is the last piece of work outstanding, and no permanent terminal exists yet.
