Lanyu Airport guide

Lanyu Airport serves Orchid Island, a volcanic island in Lanyu Township, Taitung County, about 90 km southeast of Taitung City across open sea. It lies within Hongtou Village, the township's administrative centre. The ICAO code is RCLY. The Civil Aeronautics Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications runs the airport, and the air link is the island's main alternative to the ferry from Taitung.

The single runway, 13/31, is a concrete strip about 1,130 m long. Night flying is not permitted except for emergency medical flights. The field opened in November 1964 under the Taiwan Garrison Command. The Civil Aeronautics Administration funded a new terminal, tower and apron in 1982, and the present four-storey terminal opened on 3 October 1995. Its design draws on the Tao people's totem patterns and the shape of their outrigger boats.

Daily Air is the only scheduled operator. It flies 19-seat DHC-6-400 Twin Otters to Taitung, about 42 flights a week. Strong winter winds and short, narrow pavement limit larger aircraft, and cancellations ran above 30 percent of flights in each year from 2016 to 2018. The airport handled 32,627 passengers and 21 tonnes of cargo in 2025, down from 49,617 passengers in 2018.
