Ashgabat International Airport Guide

Ashgabat International Airport serves the capital of Turkmenistan, located within the city limits in the Bagtyýarlyk District, approximately 10 km north of the city center. The current terminal, inaugurated on 17 September 2016, replaced an earlier facility built in 1994 following Turkmenistan's independence. Designed in the shape of a falcon in flight, the $2.3 billion structure covers 350,000 square metres and has a stated capacity of 14 million passengers per year.

The airport is the main hub for Turkmenistan Airlines, which operates domestic routes to cities including Mary, Türkmenabat, Türkmenbaşy, and Daşoguz, as well as international services to destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Russia, and Central Asia. Foreign carriers including Turkish Airlines, flydubai, S7 Airlines, and China Southern also serve the airport. Istanbul is the most frequently operated international route, accounting for roughly a third of weekly departures.

The airport features two parallel concrete runways each 3,800 metres long, a cargo terminal capable of handling 200,000 tonnes of freight annually, a VIP terminal, and a maintenance hangar for narrow-body aircraft. Bus routes 1, 18, 22, 58, and 76 connect the airport to central Ashgabat.
