Phuket International Airport sits in Mai Khao subdistrict at the northern end of Phuket island, in Thalang district, about 32 km north of Phuket City. Airports of Thailand (AOT) owns and operates it. A single runway, 09/27, 3,000 metres long, handles all traffic. A 5.14-billion-baht renovation completed in 2016 raised the airport's capacity from 6.5 million to 20 million passengers a year.
