Wau Airport guide

Wau Airport serves Wau, the capital of Western Bahr el Ghazal State in north-western South Sudan. It lies northeast of the town's central business district and about 511 km northwest of Juba International Airport, which makes it a regional gateway for the west of the country.

The airport has a single asphalt runway, 09/27, about 2,500 m long. A new paved runway opened in December 2012, and a third pavement layer was completed in 2015 so the strip could take heavier aircraft of up to 100 tonnes. Feeder Airlines has been listed with three weekly return flights linking Khartoum, Wau and Juba.

In January 2026 the national Ministry of Transport announced plans to raise Wau to international status. The plans include extending the runway, building new arrivals and departures terminal buildings and renovating the airport fence. Some residents near the airport would be relocated to make room for the extension. Officials describe the airport as an alternative to Juba for air traffic.
