Its IATA code is GLK and its ICAO code is HCMR. The airport lies about 1 km east-southeast of the town centre, at an elevation of 297 m (975 ft). It was renamed in 2012 after Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed, the former Somali president who was born in Galkayo.
