Karlstad Airport guide

Karlstad Airport serves Värmland County in western Sweden. Its ICAO code is ESOK. It opened in 1997 to replace the older Jakobsberg airfield, which drew noise complaints and had a runway too short for charter aircraft.

The main runway, 03/21, is 2,514 metres of asphalt. A shorter grass strip, 03L/21R, runs beside it. Traffic peaked in 2000 at about 291,500 passengers, most of them on the Stockholm route. That route closed in 2020, and car and rail travel had already taken much of its demand. Passenger numbers fell from 52,009 in 2019 to 3,830 in 2021, then recovered to 20,463 in 2023.

Sola Air flies the scheduled service to Copenhagen and Stockholm Arlanda with Saab 340 aircraft. Charter airlines add seasonal leisure flights to southern Europe, including Gran Canaria, Mallorca and Rhodes. The terminal has a bistro, a bar beyond security control and free wifi. Parking is close to the terminal entrance.
